It comes across much more as the response of someone who is, for whatever reason, reasonably in tune with their board on the issue.

(If it really were a board driven policy, I'd have expect to see a "Our policy, determined by the board, is X" sort of response, not just "I won't do that.")

Which is rather a problem when it goes so directly against the library's own mission statement, and of course, in general.

Re: Wicca, censorship, and the library

In many communities, especially smaller communities, the library, its staff, and its policies may be closely controlled by the board of trustees, usually made up of members of the community. A reallly controlling board can dictate collection development policies, insist on certain types of filtering, decide whether to hire a librarian with professional credentials, and dictate to library staff how they must respond to members of the public on access issues. The story out of Salem is not unusual - we just hear about it readilys thanks to (ironically enough) - internet access.

The librarian is taking a lot of heat over this situation, but I'd bet that the board is at the bottom of the problem.

Re: Cliques and open rituals

Thank You so much! Adele here! Yay, I've gotten in! (I've been wondering what's here for... oh, far too long. i.e. a week, but still)

I really like the melody, especially in the last line and the verse before that. Also, the repetitions of "on, on, on" really draw me - to me it sounds like a bell tolling.

This is quite different to the music that I've listened to before now (yes, I appreciate good music. But I don't really have a taste in it, at the moment.), and I like it.
I hope you're enjoying the composition project! (And that your life won't be on hold for too long.)
Adele.
Re: Health and Craft – more general thoughts

Thanks. I've been really enjoying reading the seeking pages, especially as they apply to my position at the moment. Good to hear that nothing majorly bad has happened in your life.

Re: Health and Craft – more general thoughts

Working hard (if a bit slowly) on the http://gleewood.org/seeking pages, and not writing here much yet (I've got some things gelling.) And working on the wonderful world of job hunting, which of course gets priority for my time and focus.

The locked post is related to a creative project: I needed somewhere to stick a file, but I'm not quite ready to have it out in public space yet. (I probably will when it's done.)

Hope to have more stuff up in the not too distant future, but I'm not quite sure when that'll be here: I want to focus on finishing the core writing for the /seeking pages first.

Re: Health and Craft – more general thoughts

Jenett - I've been wondering where you've been for the last month or so, due to the lack of posts. It only had a handful of posts in it, and I had a hard time integrating it into other things.

My current project is off at http://gleewood.org/seeking , which is taking the intro material and material about seeking groups and teachers into its own section. Some of it is things that are currently on the Limen blog (though I'll be taking down the easy links to those once the site is finished), but some of it is new material. Still in progress, so there's a lot not finished yet, though!

Re: Friday night ritual

I was wondering - what has happened to your reading blog?
